This past weekend’s leak of the finished iOS 11 software was likely the doing of an Apple employee, but tonight — less than 24 hours before the company’s iPhone event — a major credit card company might be joining in on ruining surprises. As reported by 9to5Mac, Discover’s deals website was briefly updated a bit prematurely with mentions of to-be-announced products including iPhone X Edition, iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus, Apple Watch Series 3, and Apple TV (2017). There’s even a new iPod touch in this list.
But hang on. Does Discover actually know Apple’s plans, or are we just seeing the work of a tech enthusiast employee taking guessing at products that will soon be excluded from the credit card company’s deals? It could easily be the latter. One potential warning flag is that this page still includes “1 to 1 Membership,” which was a paid program that offered private training lessons at Apple Stores; Apple shut down the One to One program two years ago. Hmmm...
However, the leaked iOS 11 GM build confirmed the names of the three iPhones we’ll see tomorrow, but didn’t mention the “Edition” part of the iPhone X branding. Whether that’s actually the final name is something we’ll find out during the keynote.
Discover lists two other products that are very likely to debut tomorrow: a new Apple TV set-top box and Apple Watch Series 3. Curiously, the website also mentions iPod touch (7th generation). Some code snippets of iOS 11 hint that a new iPod could be a possibility for tomorrow’s event, though the product hasn’t been as heavily rumored as the other hardware and remains less certain. Apple recently discontinued the iPod shuffle and nano, leaving the iPod touch as the sole survivor of the iPod line.
